Welcome to my Professional Inquiry Project: First Nations, Métis, and Inuit (FNMI) Knowledge Through Picture Books in the Music Classroom.
Under the Incorporation page you will find documents and articles that can guide your implementation of FNMI knowledge in your music classroom.
The Kindergarten, Division 1, and Division 2 pages each feature five picture books appropriate for students in Kindergarten, grades 1-3, and grades 4-6, respectively. Information about the contributing Indigenous authors and illustrators as well as hyperlinks to their websites or biographies is included in the About the Author and About the Illustrator text. A brief synopsis of each book and a hyperlink to purchase the book are also included in the text. Finally, the application of each book can be accessed through a button entitled Application in the Music Room that will bring you to a document that describes the focus, curricular outcomes, materials needed, process, and orchestrations for each suggested activity.
As you explore these pages, please consult the Alberta Education Elementary Music Program of Study, the activity curriculum guide and your district FNMI liaison to ensure that these activities are suitable for your school community.
It is my hope that my project will serve me, my students, and other educators as we navigate reconciliation and the new TQS (implemented in September 2019).
